The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 and “Elysian Heights,” an interactive exhibit created by students at The Texas Immersive Institute, were the key topics of discussion on a recent episode of the Texan Recap hosted by multimedia editor Joseph Sweeney, according to a press release on Sunday, July 21.
The University of Texas professors have raised concerns regarding Project 2025, a program from conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation. As per its proposition, the project is viewed as a roadmap for future conservative presidencies and contains policy proposals geared towards reducing the role of the federal government. These include changes to transgender rights, federal funding restrictions on access to abortion, and the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in government and academia.
Meanwhile, “Elysian Heights,” a student-completed project from the Texas Immersive Institute, has been named one of 79 works in contention for the prestigious 2024 Yugo BAFTA Awards. The project, a innovative blend of live theatre, augmented reality, and escape-room style puzzles is a futuristic retelling of “The Wizard of Oz.” The narrative of the project encourages audience participation in shaping the story’s conclusion.
This exhibition encourages the principles of partnership and cooperative work, concepts designed to improve human relations and improve the world through caregiving efforts. This immersive experience gives participants the chance to aid characters in freeing themselves from control and relearning their core values.
Despite the prestige that comes with being included on the long list for the Yugo BAFTA Awards, the students behind the project found satisfaction not in the possibility of accolades but in the completion of the project itself and seeing audiences interact with their creation.
