Title: The Impact of Project 2025 on Attitudes Towards Trump, Biden, and Authoritarianism: A Deep Dive

While the debate rages over President Biden’s future in the 2024 race, Democrats appear to be concentrating their energies on a single concern: Project 2025. Crafted by top Donald Trump allies, this aggressive blueprint aims to drastically shift the American government to the far right and channel more power into Trump’s hands.

Despite the undeniable overlap with his own aspirations, Trump is trying to avoid association with the project. CNN discovered that six former Trump Cabinet Secretaries and at least 140 of Trump administration personnel have linked with the project.

The political chess move of both sides becomes crystal clear with the help of a recent poll. The data indicates that if Democrats successfully communicate the idea of an authoritarian second Trump term, crucial 2024 voters labeled "double haters" could be repelled. These voters constitute around one in five who harbor distaste for both Biden and Trump and are typically the least inclined towards authoritarianism.

According to a comprehensive Monmouth University poll exploring American attitudes towards authoritarianism, Republicans are significantly more receptive to it. The data shows 70% of Trump supporters measuring ‘above average’ on the survey’s authoritarian-belief scale, compared to just 30% of Biden’s supporters.

This poll employed a series of questions gauging voters’ authoritarian leanings, including notions such as ridding society of ‘rotten apples’, needing a strong leader to vanquish evil, and the responsibilities of patriotic citizens contributing to the nation’s well-being.

Yet, the authoritarian inclination among these "double hater" voters was even lower than Democrats’, with only 20% scoring above average. On the other hand, 56% of "double haters" showed ‘low’ support for authoritarian beliefs, in sharp contrast to only 4% among Trump’s supporters.

These attitudes bring into focus how the mentioned group reacts to concepts like Project 2025. Despite their generic aversion to authoritarian ideas, they could potentially support ‘strongman’ policies if relevant to their interests. The lack of strong sentiments could also simply denote lower political engagement, a trait often seen among swing voters.

Nonetheless, Project 2025 serves as a potent touchstone for the Democrats. It personifies the intriguing idea of influential individuals working covertly to steer the nation towards extremism, consolidating power for a former president whom the "double haters" clearly despise.

The Republican Party has been cautiously avoiding a detailed platform to evade alienating voters. Still, the explicit proposals of Project 2025 are available for public judgment. Trump’s attempts to sever his ties with Project 2025 further underscore its significance, presenting Democrats with the challenge of keeping him connected to it.

However, Biden’s recent debate performance indicated a missed opportunity. Despite the potential implications of Project 2025 on his reelection campaign, Biden did not mention it once. Going forward, it would be interesting to see how this narrative unfolds and whether it could serve as a deciding factor for the crucial 2024 voters.
