In his First Rally Since Assassination Attempt, Trump Takes Aim at Biden and Harris
Donald Trump, the former US President, waged a war of words against current US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during his first rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, following his recent brush with death. When a bullet grazed his ear at the earlier rally in Pennsylvania, Trump had unwittingly dodged assassination.
On his ear, which bore the mark of his recent encounter with danger, the former President wore a white bandage. In his opening remarks, he termed the assassination attempt as “horrible”, adding a note of stoicism by stating, “I shouldn’t be here, but let’s face it, something very special happened.”
He accredited his survival to a serendipitous glance towards a chart on immigration statistics, which made him tilt his head the very moment the bullet whizzed past him, only managing to graze his ear.
Trump Zeroes in on Democratic Leadership
During his rally, the business tycoon turned politician focused on “leadership chaos” within the Democratic Party, making the note, “They have no idea who their candidate is, and neither do we.” The former President also took a jab at Biden, referring to him as a “feeble old guy”.
Trump went on to forecast a landslide win for his side in the forthcoming presidential elections, inciting the crowd with the question: Would they prefer he takes on Vice President Kamala Harris or Biden?
In his speech, Trump dwelt at length upon familiar talking points — electric vehicles, China, trade — and pledged to launch a significant deportation initiative.
Trump’s Stand on Project 2025
Interestingly, Trump addressed the idea that his potential second term as President could be heavily influenced by Project 2025, an extremist manifesto produced by the conservative Heritage Foundation. Dismissing the allegations, he explained that the document was created by the “severe right – very, very conservative and the opposite of the radical left. I don’t know anything about it, and I don’t want to know anything about it.”
Ohio Senator JD Vance, Trump’s choice for running mate, took the stage before the former President. During his address, Vance criticized both the Republicans and the Democrats for their failure to protect manufacturing jobs in Michigan and the US. “Both parties were broken in very profound ways until Trump came along,” he claimed.
