In the latest political news update, Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly announced her determination to dismantle the controversial Project 2025, a political move that comes after President Joe Biden lent his endorsement for her Democratic nomination.

Upon receiving Biden’s approval, Harris presented her argument to the nation – a voting for her would be a vote against Project 2025. Launched by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, the project aspires to dictate the legislative direction for the next Republican president.
Harris, in her opening pitch, said, “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation— to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.” Her dedication to counter the 922-page playbook, which she believes undermines the US government’s checks and balances, promises to be a cornerstone of her campaign.
Project 2025 courted controversy due to its extremist proposals, some of which include the eradication of the Department of Education, restraining the FBI’s abilities to combat misinformation and disinformation, and terminating the ‘war on fossil fuels.’
While Harris is committed to opposing Donald Trump and “his extreme Project 2025 agenda,” it is noteworthy that even Trump seems to be distancing himself from it. In a July post on his Truth Social, Trump dubbed the project as “ridiculous.” He noted, “Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
The project, however, is not tied to any particular president and some of the goals outlined could be executed by the local and state governments without any direct presidential involvement. Despite Trump denying any involvement, ironically, The Heritage Foundation was one of the sponsors of the Republican National Convention, which nominated Trump for the presidential ticket.
Steven Cheung, spokesman for Trump, criticised Harris’ stance to BI, saying, “Kamala is the one with the radical, out-of-touch agenda,” and added that she is “soft on crime” and “hates American energy production and jobs.”
Harris’ strident stand on Project 2025 follows closely on the heels of President Biden’s announcement to step down from the race, presumably due to increasing pressure from eminent Democrats fearing a loss in the election.
Biden expressed in a letter on social media, “While it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.”
A spokesperson for Harris hasn’t responded to the request for a detailed comment made by Business Insider yet.
